It is time to take a look at the progress so far in my DIY Master Bedroom.
If you have been hanging around my blog for a while you know I have been slowly taking my Master bedroom from stark to fun and comfy. We rent, so painting walls was out of question. I decided to bring in all the color and fun in the furniture and decor! Here is what it looks like today!

I love how it is evolving! It feels nice and comfy and has all the elements I love. The splashes of color make me happy while the neutrals keep everything nice and cozy.
It has indeed come a long way! This is what it started out as…
First thing was the headboard! I went with an upholstered version because (a) I have never had one and (b) it would be super comfy to just prop up against it. I chose a gray fabric to keep it neutral enough because I wanted to be able to change out the pillows etc for more fun splashes of color. I totally love the nailhead trim too! Next for the much needed dresser, I worked on an Ikea Tarva hack to create a fun dresser with fabric paneled drawers. The blue-gray paint was from the oops section and it worked perfectly with the headboard.
Then it was time for the nightstands. I was drawn to the x-base accent table and being the DIYer that I am, I decided to build my own version of it with lots of help from the Rogue Engineer! I picked a fun yellow to complement the gray headboard! Check out the full tutorial of the DIY X-base accent table!
To add eccentricity to the bedroom, I decided to go with mismatched nightstands. Rogue Engineer again helped me out with plans to build this Pottery Barn inspired Clara bedside table. To tie it in with the X base nightstand, I used the same yellow!
It was now time for some art. The space above the bed was blank and I came up with the perfect art to go there. I still stop and admire the layers of distressed paint and paper and the beautiful effect it creates. Check out the full tutorial including a video as well here.
So this is what our Master Bedroom looks like now!! I like all the fun and eccentricity it has along with being comfortable and cozy.
