DIY Custom Industrial Sign – Using Corrugated Metal
This Custom Industrial Sign Is So Easy and Quick to Make! Add Lots of Character With This Easily Personalized Rustic Metal Sign to Your Workshop or Home!
Custom industrial signs are all the rage right now. I have had this idea in my mind for quite a while and now that finally, we are unpacking boxes and space in the garage is slowly being reclaimed, I just had to start out my marking my territory 😉
I am so excited that the previous owner has a large storage cabinet and peg boards along one wall already!
It is the perfect space to display and store all my tools! and now has the perfect sign too.
This DIY metal sign was super quick and easy to make… took me about an hour and I love the raw, rustic-industrial look!

Materials Needed to Make the DIY Metal Sign
- Corrugated steel metal roofing
- ¾” plywood – cut to the desired size
- Tin Snips
- Work gloves
- ¾” spax screws
- Sharpie
- Stain of your choice. I used Carbon Gray
- Finish sander with 220 grit sandpaper
How to Make the Custom Corrugated Metal Sign
- Start by cutting the corrugated metal sheet to the desired size using the tin snips. Be sure to wear protective work gloves because the metal is really sharp.
- Cut the ¾” plywood to size and stain it. I cut it to 2″ wider than the corrugated metal on all sides.
- Create a distressed look on the corners by running a sander along the edges and corners.
- Screw the metal sheet into the plywood using the ¾” Spax screws. I love these screws! I didn’t have to predrill at all!
- Write your word onto the Metal using the black Sharpie. I printed “WORKSHOP” in 300 point, cut out each letter to create a stencil and filled it in with the Sharpie.
That’s it!
I can’ stop staring at those distressed edges combined with the industrial metal! Now I just have to get everything out of boxes and onto the pegboard and in those cabinets!
I am dreaming of an organized workshop! Soon….very soon….
Anika's goal is to inspire and empower beginners with woodworking, DIY, home improvement, and home decor ideas.
She wants everyone to unlock their creative potential and experience the feeling that comes with making something. Nothing feels better better than seeing something and saying "I can make that!"
This is so cute Anika!! I have a collection of sharpies I need to put to use!! I love the look of the metal. Your shop is going to look so good!
Thanks so much Janice!
Wow, you are lucky to have inherited cabinets and pegboard. And I love your sign, it’s perfect for your new work area. I would not have thought to use corrugated metal but it fits perfectly!
I’m inspired to dress up my little area in the garage with some peg board to hang all of “my” tools, since the hubby is constantly accusing me of using and not putting back “his” tools 😀
You definitely should create a space for “your” tools… I can’t wait to load up all those cabinets and get everything organized! Thanks for stopping by!
