Materials Needed for Easy IKEA Rast Makeover –
- Ikea Rast chest of drawers. If you don’t have an Ikea close by, you can also get it here, although it’s a bit pricier.
- BIN shellac based primer
- Super FinishMax Extra
- Large HomeRight Spray shelter
- Primer
- Latex paint color of your choice ( I used SW Sea Salt)
- Gold Easy Stripe
- Knobs
The Quickest Way to Makeover an IKEA Rast –
Step 1 – Assemble your Ikea Rast per directions but don’t install the knobs. Also, don’t attach the drawers to the frame. It took me about 30 minutes to assemble.
Step 2 – Cover all the knots with the shellac based primer. You will need 2 coats. This is very important because you don’t want the knots to bleed through.
Step 3 – Set up the large spray shelter and give the entire dresser including the drawers 3 coats of primer using the HomeRight Super FinishMax Extra. Wait about an hour between each coat. I love this new version because you don’t have to worry about diluting the primer.
Step 4 – Lightly sand the entire dresser to smooth it out and wipe down with a tack cloth.
Step 5 – Apply 2 coats of the latex paint using the Super FinishMax Extra.
Step 6 – Add the gold stripes across the dresser in your favorite pattern. I love that they look like they are painted on but can be easily removed if you wanted to change it out!
Step 7 – Add your favorite knobs and enjoy!
That’s it! It was a super quick! each coat takes about 15 minutes from pouring paint into the sprayer to clean up. The only thing that takes time is waiting for the various coats of primer and paint to dry.
