Plus the front door could certainly use some fall decor more than just the Easy DIY Fall Wreath.

I love how these are so versatile… you can even stack them up!DIY wood block pumpkins that are stackable and distressed. Easy to make!

Aren’t those super cute faces?!

I have been wanting to try out the Dixie Belle paint samples I received a little while ago and this was the perfect opportunity to work with them.

Plus I used up some of the 4×4 scrap wood pieces from my scrap pile so nothing better than that!

Materials needed to make DIY wood pumpkins –

  • 4 x 4 lumber
  • Orange paint – I had some left over from another project
  • Grey and blue  paints – I used Dixie’s Belle’s Chalk mineral paint in Hurricane Grey and Blueberry
  • Black craft paint
  • Orbital Sander. I use this one.
  • Corner sander for distressing. My favorite one is this Corner cat finish sander
  • ½″ x 3″ Carriage bolt
  • Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint
  • Orange and green pipe cleaners

How to make the DIY stacked wood pumpkins –

Here is a quick video tutorial showing you how to make these! If you would rather read, the steps follow too.

Step 1 – Start with the 4 x 4 lumber cut to blocks in sizes you like. I roughly cut 3 different sizes. Make sure to sand all the edges and corners of the blocks. This is the best part… no need to measure! 🙂She turns these into cute fall decor!

Step 2 – Paint the blocks orange with craft or other paint. Once that is dry, paint them in the grey and blue. The Dixie Belle paint went so smooth and dried super fast! By the time I was done painting the third block, the first was dry and ready to distress! Talk about instant gratification! How to make DIY wood block pumpkins

Step 3 – Distress the wood blocks lightly to reveal the layer of orange paint underneath. Some spots also show the bare wood and I love the effect that creates! She creates cute fall decor with this! How to make wood block pumpkins

Step 4 – Give the carriage bolt a coat of oil rubbed bronze spray paint. This makes the best fall decor!

Step 5– Paint Jack’o lantern faces on the blocks on all 4 sides using black craft paint. I drew and painted the faces with different shapes and expressions… totally random – no reason!Painting distressed DIY wood pumpkins

Step 6 – Drill a hole in the top of one “pumpkin” with a ½″ drill bit and screw in the carriage bolt. Attach a couple of orange and green pipe-cleaners to it (I just rolled them around my finger for the coiling effect)Shabby Chic distressed wood pumpkins

That’s it! Stack them up and enjoy!Stackable and distressed wood block pumpkins

I haven’t glued the “pumpkins” together so you can arrange them and store them however you want to in the future.
