DIY End Table With Charging Station
Learn how to build a DIY End Table with a hidden charging station. Say goodbye to the wire clutter! This works as a great DIY charging nightstand as well!
Please tell me I am not the only one with a corner in the living room with a messy jumble of wires…
There are so many wires we need access to near the couch – like phone chargers and a laptop charger, plus the Google home and a lamp…
So many wires going everywhere!
But not anymore!
Here is the DIY end table with a hidden charging station.
It is one of those projects which I finish and wonder – ” why did I not think of this sooner!”
I am so glad for this month’s theme of the DIY Challenge – Multipurpose projects! This table has definitely been a long time coming!

Plans for the Nightstand With Charging Station
I asked my Instagram followers if there should be a shelf underneath. The answer was an overwhelming “yes!”
I decided to go without a shelf for my living room because the shelf wouldn’t be accessible and would be one more place for dust.
But if you want one with a shelf, I have you covered!
The printable plans include instructions for both – with or without a shelf.

How to Build a Nightstand With a Hidden Charging Station
I built this table to go in a corner between two couches and so the size is 24-1/2″ x 24-1/2″ and 24-1/4″ tall.
You can easily make it narrower or wider by making small adjustments to the plans.
Here is a full video of how I built the table. The step by step instructions follow.

Step by Step Tutorial for DIY Charging End Table
Step 1 – Make Cuts and Prep
- Follow the printable plans and make all your cuts.
- Make the small taper cut on the 2×2 legs using a jigsaw.
- Sand down the boards.
- Cut a small U-shaped opening at the top of the side and/or back panel to route out wires per your needs. I didn’t do this and ended up having to make holes with a hole saw later.
Step 2 – Build the Side Panels
- Build the side panels by attaching the sideboards to the 1×2 trim using pocket holes.
- There are 3 panels – 2 side panels and 1 back panel – be sure to make them because they are slightly different sizes.
Note – Make sure the pocket holes for the 1×2 boards are facing out.
Step 3 – Assemble the Sides
- Attach 2×2 legs to the side panels using 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws to assemble the 2 sides.
Note – Pay close attention to the direction of the taper. It should be facing up.
Step 4 – Assemble the Frame of the End Table
- Attach the back panel to one of the sides using pocket hole screws
- Attach the front 1×2’s using pocket hole screws.
- Place this on top of the other side and attach to build the frame of the entire nightstand.
Step 5 – Add a Drawer
- Build and attach the drawer to the front using 8″ drawer slides.
See my guide on how to build a drawer for beginners.
Step 6 – Prepare and Attach the Charging Console
- Measure the dimensions of the recessed power strip
- Mark and cut out the recess for the power strip in the bottom panel using a jigsaw.
- Attach the bottom panel to the back of the end table frame using pocket hole screws from the backside.
- The panel is not flush to the bottom but 3″ higher to hide the bottom of the power strip.
- I used a 4×4 block to rest my panel while I attached it.
Step 7 – Make the Top and Attach
- The top is made up of two parts- the front which is fixed and the back which can be opened.
- Build the 2 parts by attaching the top boards using 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws.
- Attach the back to the divider using frameless full overlay hinges. I like using soft close hinges to make sure any fingers don’t get pinched.
Tip – Face clamps help keep the boards level as you attach them.
Step 8 – Finish
- Fill any pocket holes.
- The end table is designed such that there are no pocket holes visible on the outside – only on the inside of the charging station.
- Finish with stain or paint of your choice. I used Behr Black Evergreen to paint mine.
- Attach the powers strips and a pretty knob.
- I used 3M strips at the back of the nightstand to route the wires along the legs.
See my full guide on how to paint unfinished furniture to get a professional finish.
That’s it!
It is a really simple build and I am already so happy, I built this!
It has made the wire situation so much more organized! I used 3M cord organizers to route the wire down the sides of the end table.
Also, isn’t this green so gorgeous! I love my pink knob against it!!
