Master Bedroom Makeover – The Before and The Plans

Our  Master bedroom is tiny.

I mean 12’x12′ tiny!

With a King size bed, there is barely any space to walk around.

I have been struggling to figure out how to make this room not look cluttered while still being cozy.

Master Bedroom Makeover

I decided to reach out to my friends at Modsy to get some help!

Remember when I first used Modsy for my living Room makeover inspiration? I was blown away with how they can simulate your rooms and you get to “try” the room!

So here is the before of my master bedroom – 

You might recognize a few pieces of furniture in here – the X-leg bench (even though you can barely see it at the end of the bed), the nightstand with hidden storage, the Ikea Tarva nightstand and the “you and me” art. Overall – it has ended up a mismatched bare room…We inherited the curtain rod which is way too thin and needs to be switched out ASAP. The ice blue walls, the blue comforter and grey curtains don’t help much either!

The Modsy design process

Remember from my living room design, the process is really very simple –

• Fill out a quiz about your style
• Upload pictures of your rooms
• Give them measurements
• Tell them what you want to keep in the room.
• Then you wait for them to get back to you with designs.
• You can request as many changes as you like.
• Once you are happy with the design, you can directly purchase items through Modsy if you want.

For the bedroom makeover, I asked Modsy to help me create a colorful and warm room without looking cluttered.

Here is what I requested  –

• A feature wall. I have been digging dark ones recently.
• More (pretty) storage
• Add color
• Add plants

And as expected, I was not disappointed! 

Here is a closer look at the main part – the bed and the feature wall.

Are you blown away?!!

Remember this isn’t a real room – it is a 3-D rendering!

You almost feel like you are walking into the room. They also have a 360° simulation you can use to look around the room 🙂

My thoughts on Modsy’s initial designs –

I was instantly drawn to Design 1!

I LOVED the yellow bed and the dark green wall but I think it needed more color!

Plus the bed was a queen bed in the pictures.

The main changes I requested were –

• Putting the night lamps up on the wall.
• Switching to a king bed because that’s what we have and I needed to judge the space in the room.
• Using the colorful rug from Design 2 in Design 1.

Modsy’s next set of designs

With the requested changes, I got design 4 with the King bed.

I like the lamps on the walls but I lost my favorite – the yellow bed 🙁

At that point, I had a call with the designer and we went over all the things I loved and what I wanted to change.

It was awesome to actually talk about it because you can’t always convey your thoughts through checklists and comments.

Once we discussed what I really wanted, I got back this gorgeous design. 

So much more like me!

I requested for them to pull more red and orange from the rug to the art and pillows.

The designer updated it .

I couldn’t help myself. I went into their 3D editor and played with the design myself and switched up the wall art!

Finally, we have Design 10 – 

Here is the other side of the room. 

I LOVE it! I think it looks cozy, warm and not cluttered and most importantly colorful!

As you can tell, I love the idea that you can “try” on the room and figure out what style fits you best before making actual changes to the room.

My Master Bedroom makeover plan
