Isn’t this a cool DIY entryway shelf?

Today I have Tylynn from Bitterroot DIY sharing this fun and quick project!

I love Tylynn’s creativity and you are going to as well! She is currently remodeling her house and you are going to be amazed at all that she is doing!

Here is Tylynn –

Hi guys, my name is Tylynn. I write the blog Bitterroot DIY and am popping in over here today to share a quick DIY entryway shelf! I recently completed a kitchen remodel which spilled over into our living room which includes our entryway … a long process of one-project-leads-to-another … but here we are!

The living room/entryway is currently in a complete state of disarray, so I needed something to bring a little order to the chaos. Basically, this shelf is helping me maintain my sanity right now!

It’s a great spot to hang your keys, purse, jackets, what-have-you. And the top shelf has just enough space to add a touch of decor to keep things stylish.

**PS: don’t mind the door without trim … it’s still under construction 😉

How to Build the Entryway Shelf

Step 1 – Prep the Boards

Make cuts, sand and finish the boards as desired. I used Special Walnut, followed by Classic Gray which I wiped on and off as quickly as possible. I sealed the shelves with Spray-on Polyurethane in Satin.DIY Entryway Shelf with Hooks

Step 2 – Attach Hooks

Place the end hooks 4.5″ from the edges of the board. Space the middle hooks 3.5″ center-to-center from the edge hooks. Make sure to pre-drill the holes to avoid splitting the board.DIY Entryway Shelf with Hooks

Step 3 – Add shelf brackets

Attach the shelf brackets to the bottom board first.

I positioned the bracket 1/4″ from the edge of the board.DIY Entryway Shelf with Hooks

Because of the location of the holes for screws, I ended up just using one screw on the bottom of the bracket and some construction adhesive to attach the brackets.

Once the brackets are attached to the bottom board, attach the brackets to the top shelf. Position the brackets  3/4″ up from the back of the shelf so that the top shelf sits flush against the wall when it’s hung up.

Lastly, I painted the screws black so they blend in nicely!

The hardware came with screws, but they were too long for the 3/4″ board thickness, so I used screws I had on hand.

I mounted the shelf to the wall with screws. DIY Entryway Shelf with Hooks on wall

And that’s that. The rest of our house may be in shambles but at least this 2 ft of wall space looks great!
